disassembly industrial steam turbine 38MW

Hi guys,I am a beginner on this field - service engineering, therefore if someone could help me with tips, tricks, advice (some short guide that could help me) during the assembly- disassembly process....turbine is siemens T8380 38MW

RE: disassembly industrial steam turbine 38MW

Are you a Siemens service engineer?  I was going to recommend that you hire one of them but it wasn't clear whether or not you were.

If you are, get hold of an older fatherly type, one of your peers and let him/her guide you through this.

When I was a young service engineer, the older heads on the force helped me through several ticklish situations.

RE: disassembly industrial steam turbine 38MW

if this is older unit that has had past inspections, find past reports and log books

I hope the hand written log book is still a part of new service engineer's tools.

I'm using mine now to plan an outage
(i've never worked siemens, so i can't offer any other tips)

Are you a Siemens service engineer?
no, I am not. And  I have not experience on that field. As you can see, I am an aerospace engineer, and this is my first task as field service engineer, so I am afraid, don't know what to expect. This will be the exercise...no papers (past reports or books) nothing, I'm not familiar with this business...what should I have to do...I do not like when you have no control...therefore I need any tips, advice..what kind of problem is usual...on which particular pay attention...anything which could help me :)

Are you for real? - you have no experience, don't know what you are doing and are attempting to dismantle a 38MW steam turbine.

Is the owner of the turbine aware of this?

For a start, you won't know what critical dimensions to record whilst dismantling and I bet you won't be able to visually assess component condition.

The owner of the turbine needs to engage someone with relevant experience to lead this work.

RE: disassembly industrial steam turbine 38MW

how about access to a service manual or drawings?  if your service was sold to the owner by your company, then a contract listing what should be performed might help.  maybe even a schedule.

if you are the owner, hopefully the crew will be familiar, but a lot of times what may be easier way is not the best way.  the role of service engineer I'm familair with is responsible to direct the mechanics in how to disassemble with out damaging the unit and you need one.

while the rotating section is fairly straight foward , the valves and controls have dire consequencies if not understood.

The turbine has been destroyed, this will be an exercise,..but, I don't have any Idea what kind of job is this (field service engineer), what is my task and so on, we want to do  without siemens ...

RE: disassembly industrial steam turbine 38MW

Wow,  I got thrown into some sink or swim situations when I was a pup service engineer for a major OEM, but I had behind me some good basic training and a whole world of expertise just a phone call away.

I think you are in deep doo doo.  Sorry to put it that way.  I hope you can hire a very experienced crew and hopefully one that has worked on that machine before.  Working with an experienced crew saved my bacon a time or two.

If you are all novices, there ought to be a book in it somewhere.

You have got to get some up close and near by help of some sort, not anonymous 'handles' on the internet.

Best of luck.

I am looking on one drawing which I have, and for example, problem for me is how to disassembly nozzle box, because it is bolted from down side, and you need some "special tools" (no idea what, that is problem) to fix rotor during that operation. And I have a lot other questions :)
2.question: is possible to sent private message here in forum to someone, and how?

RE: disassembly industrial steam turbine 38MW

Don't understand question about nozzle, but from small photo on page 3 of that brochere, it looks like the upper nozzle steam flow to the upper halve would be through seal rings and snouts.  so access to remove nozzle after upper halve and rotor are out

It is a site policy here not to post personal info as it leads to spamming.

RE: disassembly industrial steam turbine 38MW

Hi,
I work for company which is specialised in steam turbines outages. Siemens turbines have been repaired by us a couple of time, so we have knowledge in this area. Let me know if you are still interested in disassembly problems.
