Circular Plate Bending Stress Formula

Circular Plate Bending Stress Formula

Circular Plate Bending Stress Formula

(OP)
I need to calculate the bending stresses for a uniformly loaded circular plate with fixed edges. Roark's Handbook gives a solution for such a plate but only for loading over a very small area so I'm not sure if the solution actually applies to my case. Can anyone point me to an appropriate reference or solution? Thanks.

RE: Circular Plate Bending Stress Formula

took a quick look at my roarks... cant you set "ro" as zero?

RE: Circular Plate Bending Stress Formula

oopps i was looking at pinned support not fixed..

nevermind

RE: Circular Plate Bending Stress Formula

You need to combine the line-load case (with load applied at the outside radius) with the uniformly-loaded-and-pinned case to get zero rotation at the outside edge.

I'm not sure how combining the line-load case (with the load applied at the outside radius) would give me the solution I want. It seems to me that that would produce zero shear - not zero rotation.

RE: Circular Plate Bending Stress Formula

"Theory of Plates and Shells" by Timoshenko and Woinowsky-Krieger gives the solution to a uniformly loaded circular plate with clamped edges.

In the first site below, under Plates -> Simple bending -> Solid circular pl. -> Fixed you have various loadings to choose from for your configuration.

RE: Circular Plate Bending Stress Formula

That would be the "uniform line moment" case, which is Case 13 in the table I'm looking at, not a line force.

Case 10b with ro=0?
