Martensitic steel pickling mistake

Martensitic steel pickling mistake

Martensitic steel pickling mistake

(OP)
Hi,

We have made a mistake in our product cycle during picling.
In fact, we have put martensitic steel in fluo notric acid bath instead a phosphoric bath during, 1 hour.
The material is an équivalent grade as X4CrNiMo16.5.1 (16%Cr, 4%Ni and near 2% of Mo).Austenizing ( 950 1080 °C) and quenching cool( T > 580°C)and it's forged parts for Nuclear application.
Thank you for your return and your esperience about this subject.Do you think it could be a problem for parts in a metallurigal point of view?and in the life cycle of parts?

Regards

RE: Martensitic steel pickling mistake

how much metal did you remove?  How much lighter are the parts?
The biggest risk is that some areas may be attacked much deeper than others.
