Need MACRO Help

Need MACRO Help

Need MACRO Help

(OP)
Hello all,
Would anyone like to accept the task of creating a macro that will allow me to be able to add dimensions to a design table?  I would like to be able to right click on a dimension at the part level and have the option of adding it to a design table as well as providing the a new dimension name at the same time.  I thought this could be done with a macro possibly but my knowledge of macros is VERY limited.  Other suggestions welcome as well.

Thanks,
BB

Hi Scott,
I always have issues with that.  99% of the time I want to add the dimension but sometimes it adds the column as suppressed or unsuppressed.  Then I have to and delete the column and try to add again.  Also, when it comes to changing the dimension name and saving the table it always says the dimension column header name is illegal and it exits without saving any changes.  I though if there could be a macro to automatically add the dimension with a user specified name it would be easier.

RE: Need MACRO Help

Make a tiny config-specific change to the dimension.  Then it will show up on the list of new stuff to include when you open the DT for editing.

RE: Need MACRO Help

What I do is edit the Design table in a separate window. Then I click out of the box where the dimension name goes, click back to the part and doulbe click the feature to get the dimensions. Click back to the Design table select the dimension name cell, click back to the part and just start double clicking all the dimensions. I never get the suppressed stuff again. I do that for every feature I need to get the dimensions out of. The key is just not to have that dimension name selected when you double click a feature.

I will give these suggestions a try.  Is there a "right" way to rename the dimension name when it comes to design tables (sketch2@.......blah, blah, blah) so as not to get those "illegal column header names"?

RE: Need MACRO Help

Rename the dimension before you add it to the table.  And don't use any funny characters.

Handleman,

Will this macro work with SW2008 and up?

RE: Need MACRO Help

Handleman,
I am having trouble with this Macro.  I have made a simple plate with about 10 thru holes.  When I run the macro nothing happens.  I am probably doing something wrong.  Suggestions welcome.

Sorry, I got it to work.  I had to save the file first and then the double click worked.  Prior to saving it would always tell me cannot find part3.

Thanks, this will be very helpful.

STAR 4 YOU

RE: Need MACRO Help

Handleman,
Throughout the days, you have supplied quite a few very useful macros (and general assistance).  You should post some macros onto 3DCC or somewhere that people can sort through.  Do you have a website?

Another star for you.
