Breaking distributor caps

Breaking distributor caps

Breaking distributor caps

(OP)
I am having problems with distributor caps cracking on stationary engines. We began to use CD systems with a pickup years ago, however we would like to revisit using a distributor again if there is any way to keep the caps from cracking. The body of the distributor is vented on the side and on the bottom and the cap is out in the open to where heat buildup should not be so much of a problem. Does anybody have any ideas/suggestions?

thank-you
Allen

RE: Breaking distributor caps

distributor shaft "twisted" or "bent"

check out distributor for vibration by spinning in a distributor-machine tester like Allen, Marquette, Sun, etc.

RE: Breaking distributor caps

Allen,
Have you checked for fuel vapors migrating to the cap, if it has a vacuum line to the distributor?
If so a fix is available.
