Converting two complex surfaces to solid

Converting two complex surfaces to solid

Converting two complex surfaces to solid

(OP)
Hi,

I'm somewhat of a solidworks neophyte and I'm having some trouble creating solids from surfaces.

I have these two surfaces obtained from point cloud files, representing the inner and outer surface of a cartilage layer (see here.
What I need to do now is somehow create a solid out of these two surfaces.

I have managed to create a stamp by drawing a contour onto one of the surfaces, extruding it and cutting this volume with both surfaces. But creating the entire volume seems to be another thing entirely.

Can anybody help me about with some good tips or ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Cheers,

Steven

ps. Alternatively creating a volume by thickening one of the surfaces is acceptable as well.

RE: Converting two complex surfaces to solid

Make some surfaces that patch the 2 together then perform a knit to turn it into a solid.  If you have trouble post your model and people usually help.  I hope this helps.

RE: Converting two complex surfaces to solid

First trim & knit surfaces together so they make an enclosed volume.  Then use Thicken.  If you use thicken on a closed surface body, you will be presented with an option to make the surface into a solid.

Thanks very much for the tips guys. It actually went embarrassingly easy. So I think I've got it covered.

Cheers,

Steven
