LS.

What will be the effect on wallthickness etc when a horizontal storage vessel with a self supporting roof, slope 1:5 dia 81' cilindrical heigth 46' acc. API 650,  has to be designed for seismic loads? (Loc. California)

Thanks in advance.

RE: Seismic loads

I assume you mean a vertical tank, first off.

As to wall thickness:  It depends.  It may not make any diffeence at all.  Or it could increase thickness substantially due to seismic hoop stresses or seismic compressive stresses.  You just have to work through the calculations to see.

You're rigth JStephen it is a vertical tank.
But just working trough the calculations is not so easy for an unexpierend person. Therefor I've posted it as a general question.

RE: Seismic loads

And you've got a general answer.  Getting a specific answer involves the practice of engineering, which is generally beyond what you expect from a free website.

By the way, seismic loads vary widely across California; you'd probably want a soils report for the site before working up the seismic design in detail.

RE: Seismic loads

Is this an existing tank  ?

No,

I was only asked to quote a tank with seismic loads.
