B31.3 Appendix H Question

B31.3 Appendix H Question

B31.3 Appendix H Question

(OP)
Hoping someone will clear up some of my confusion.
Looking at the H301 Example in appendix H, it calculates A2 using what looks like the formula A2=d1(Th-th-c) however going back to section 304.3.3(c)(1) A2=(2xd2-d1)(Th-th-c)

Can anyone tell me why they use the first formula and not the second in this example as they produces very different results. If i use the second A2 from the section 304.3.3 for my problem I need a reinforcement on the branch if i use the procedure in the example H301 I don't.

Thanks in advance.

RE: B31.3 Appendix H Question

Normally d2 = d1 therefore the two equations you quote should yield the same results.
