fastener search problems

(OP)
Hi,
I don't work in the aerospace field but am adapting some of our equipment for use on a military aircraft application and am having trouble identifying NAS/MS fastener part numbers. Our customer has offered to help with this but they are swamped and have not been able to provide any guidance, nor have our traditional suppliers.

For instance my immediate need is a 100 degree flat head screw, 8-32 thread, .3125 long in A286 with a locking pellet or patch. NAS 1102 comes close but no locker is available and I don't want to resort to loctite-but may have to. If any one has knowlege of a particular fastener that would work here I would appreciate the guidance, but what I really am asking for is fastener supplier recommendations-people who know nuts and bolts and can work from my basic description and tell me what is available. An outfit with the crusty old guy in the back room that you go to when you are stuck. I hope that he hasn't retired just yet.

Thanks for your help.

RE: fastener search problems

RE: fastener search problems

Wil, are you calling out a bolt used by the Luftwaffe in WWII on the BF109G model fighter aircraft?  (Just kidding...)

RE: fastener search problems

debodine...

I'm sure that "bf109g" has an interesting story about his  forum name [war-name].... maybe we can prompt his attention on this issue...

My war name [USAF, long-ago] was "BF Hammer" ... earned one afternoon on a "stubborn" [welded-together-due-to-bearing-failure] C-130 MLG wheel-on-an-axle... for pretty-obvious reasons. Hmmmmm... GI QAs and meticulous ACOs can be very unforgiving...

I had a friend [+/-25-years ago] who's war-name was "Hacksaw Harris" ... for his rough demolition of a mishap-damaged aft fuselage during an impromptu "condition inspection".

Regards, Wil Taylor

RE: fastener search problems

Wil:

We had a Master Sergeant who was known as "Crash" Kippenberg due to an incident with a forklift in Germany.  I don't recall ever earning a war name (that is repeatable in genteel company, anyway) so I don't have any good story to share there.

I am sure in your position that day on the flight line you were tempted to retort to the GI QA person, "Ok YOU remove the wheel without a BF Hammer and show me how to do it!'
