Affect of Rubber Temperature Prior to Injection

Affect of Rubber Temperature Prior to Injection

Affect of Rubber Temperature Prior to Injection

(OP)
What affect and how much can the temperature of rubber prior to molding have on the results of the molded parts on an injection press?  For example if the room you are running a mold in is 55°F one day and the next day it is 70°F, how will this affect the results of the parts being made if all other factors are the same such as the settings on the press/mold?

RE: Affect of Rubber Temperature Prior to Injection

A 15F change in room temperature would not change the process.  The barrel should be regulated by a thermolator to maintain the barrel temperature that you want.  A 15 degree hotter environment that the rubber is stored in could have an affect over a long period of time.

RE: Affect of Rubber Temperature Prior to Injection

The affects would not be great. The initial modulus and hardness of the rubber will be greater which will increase mechanical loads and more energy must be added to reach processing temperature so throughput will go down a little.
