Reason for Pressure drop between the discharge of chiller and Suction

Reason for Pressure drop between the discharge of chiller and Suction

Reason for Pressure drop between the discharge of chiller and Suction

(OP)

We have Chilled water system with Three Chillers catered by Four Primary Pumps and four Secondary pumps  primary pump flow is 155 Meter cube per hour, where as secondary pump is 117 M3 per hour.
The suction at Secondary pump is negative Inlet pressure to Chiller from primary pump is 1.8 Kg/cm2 outlet is 1 Kg/cm2 and suction of secondary pumps are minus 0.8 Kg per cm2.

Both the pumps are grundfos why there is pressure drop of 1.8 Kg/cm2 {1-(-0.8)}

RE: Reason for Pressure drop between the discharge of chiller and Suction

Can you post a diagram of your piping configuration.

**********************
"Pumping accounts for 20% of the world's energy used by electric motors and 25-50% of the total electrical energy usage in certain industrial facilities."-DOE statistic (Note: Make that 99% for pipeline companies) http://virtualpipeline.spaces.live.com/

RE: Reason for Pressure drop between the discharge of chiller and Suction

Yes, you need to properly describe system. Diagrams are alway helpful.

Sri - common sources could be differences in piping configuration, fouled filters, partially closed valves.Another possibility is faulty meters. Its a little like being a private detective: Go look for leads smile

Refrigeration lines must be sized for a high enough flow rate to carry back lube oil. High velocity produces dynamic head losses.
