Problem with v11

Problem with v11

Problem with v11

(OP)
I`m having problem with Solid Edge v11.
I can make the parts and assemblies but when I`m
trying to make a drawing in Draft. I get an error message,
like this "" The drawing view(s) could`t be created
possibly due to geometry errors in the model. A common
cause for this is invalid imported model geometry.
Review the model file to resolve geometry errors.""
Can anyone please help me out.
Many thanks ahead your`s janne

RE: Problem with v11

First of all, some easy questions:
Do you have any interpart copies?  FOA? FOP? Linked Variables?

Now, some harder questions:
How many parts in your assembly(ies)?  Is there any interference/collisions?  Are your parts simple (prismatic using protustions and revolves) or do they contain lofts and sweeps?  Are any of the parts imported models from other CAD systems?

And, some general questions:
What SP of v11 do you have?  What operating system, memory, and other computer specs do you run?

Answering these questions will help me and others track down the root problem.  For now, I would begin troubleshooting this problem by opening your top-level assembly.  Then, right-click in the Edge Bar starting with the first part that was inserted and Edit in place.  Look at the feature tree and make sure there are no red exclamation points or grey arrows next to any feature.  If there is, hover your cursor over the feature and read the status bar for a hint at the problem.

Good Luck.

Well I´ll got an dell dimenssion 8100 1,4Ghz intel p4
processor,128Mb RDram,Geforce2 GTS 32MB AGP.
WinMe.
I don`t have any servicepack. But I can´t even open the simpliest part in draft. For Ex. I make a postrution of an cylinder and save as an part. Then try to make a drawing of that part I`ll get the error message. Even old files that I could open in V10 doesn´t work either. I hope I`d been giving you some completary information. Please help me out.
If you want I can mail you a small part file which I cant open and you see if you can open it. If you can then I`ll know that it`s the draft invirorment that not working.
Many thanks ahead your`s janne

RE: Problem with v11

The Only advice I can offer is that your Operating System is probably not ideal, I know SE Likes Win NT/2000/XP the best.
I would imagine that newer versions of Solid Edge will be less friendly to older Operating systems like 9x/Me.

RE: Problem with v11

Janne,

Do you have a current subscription service with EDS?  In other words, are you paying the maintanence contract for SE?

If you are, you can log onto the SE newsgroups (news://bbsnotes.ugs.com) after you create a webkey through EDS' GTAC system (http://support.ugs.com/).  There is a binary newsgroup there for you to post a sample part for me to try to open on my version of SE.

Otherwise, and this is only because I don't want to publically display my email address, I have written some FAQ's in the Metal and Metallurgy forum (FAQ330-292).  You can view this FAQ and there is an option to email a comment to me.  The email is sent through eng-tips so my email stays private.  Your email address will be attached to the FAQ comment (You really don't have to comment about the FAQ, just remind me who you are.) so I can respond directly to you which will give you my email address.  You can then attach you part to an email sent directly to me and we can try to work out the problems.

Without all this trial and error, my first guess would be to reinstall SE.  Make sure you cleanly remove SE, including hacking the registry if necessary.  Make sure all remnants of previous versions are gone.  Also, when you reinstall SE, make sure your anti-virus is off during the install process.  Be sure to turn it back on when install is finished.  Or better yet, just reboot your computer after install.
