Column Base Plate Max. Load Capacity

How to calculate the Maximum Column Base Plate Load Carrying Capacity? given the dimension of plate 700mmx800mmx55mm using 4 Ksi or 28 Mpa. thanks.

concrete strength 4Ksi or 28Mpa. thanks.

RE: Column Base Plate Max. Load Capacity

When one doesn't find direct guide in the standing code and requires so one must search within the technical literature. I don't find a statement for the load in AISC 360 but LRFD 1992 had at the composite structures' chapter, see the attachment. It is growth of strength based on degree on confinement, by the square root of the areas of footing and plate print, so quite a classical approach, and relatively easy to justify.

RE: Column Base Plate Max. Load Capacity

Are you asking about the capacity of the steel plate?  If so, you need to furnish the column dimensions and tell us which code you are using.  If you are asking about the bearing capacity of the concrete, ishvaaag is on the right track, but you need to provide information about the concrete element receiving the plate and also which code you are using.  There are some differences in maximum bearing stress and capacity reduction factor between codes.

thank you so much.. actually we think our calculation for the size of base plate is correct but the client said that they computed max. load carrying capacity of the base plate and the value is lower than the actual load acting on the base plate. we're using the AISC and ACI code. but we don't know how they calculated the max. load capacity they only gave us their value so we want to recheck or recompute.

RE: Column Base Plate Max. Load Capacity

You have left out a few essential information required to evaluate your design. Please have someone go over your calculation to make sure the information are there.

RE: Column Base Plate Max. Load Capacity

There is a ton of info you have left out..to name a few things
What is column size and shape?
Is there tension?
Is there Moment?
Is it compression only?
What size are the anchors?
What is the layout of the anchors?
What size is the pier?
What is Fy of the steel?

To: Stillerz,
thanks for your response, i didn't include other info's on my query above, but having those info how can i calculate the max. carrying load capacity of a base plate? what is the formula?
here are some info.
compression load = 652.5 ton
Anchor bolt :I type M48, 8ea, 1255mm, SS400
Anchor bolt    fy : 36 ksi
base plate material : SM490A

thanks.

es:

Can you set up a sample cal unsing the info from your 1st, 2nd and last threads, so we can have a sense where the problem might be?
