CSA REQUIREMENT FOR NEUTRAL GROUNDING OF GENERATORS

CSA REQUIREMENT FOR NEUTRAL GROUNDING OF GENERATORS

CSA REQUIREMENT FOR NEUTRAL GROUNDING OF GENERATORS

(OP)
DEAR ALL,

IS THERE ANY SPECIFIC CSA REQUIREMENT FOR EARTHING OF GENERATOR NEUTRAL?

FOR EXAMPLE, TYPE OF NEUTRAL DEPENDS UPON SIZE AND VOLTAGE RATING OF GENERATORS ?

RE: CSA REQUIREMENT FOR NEUTRAL GROUNDING OF GENERATORS

There's an IEEE standard regarding neutral grounding schemes.  I've worked with all of them, solidly grounded, neutral transformer, neutral resistor etc.  Each type has it's benefits and set-backs.  The standards even have a tutorial section to help you work out the sizing.

From what I've seen 11kV and up are generally neutral transformer grounded.  The lower voltage machines have a mix match from individual grounds, to shared neutral resistors across a station ground bus etc.

RE: CSA REQUIREMENT FOR NEUTRAL GROUNDING OF GENERATORS

If grounding the neutral will result in a voltage to ground of not more than 150 volts the neutral of a system must be grounded. Canadian Electrical Code. A standby generator may use a three pole transfer switch and the neutral may be solid with the supply transformer neutral. One common connection to ground may serve both neutrals.
That covers 120:208V and 120:240V installations. For higher voltage systems the neutral may be floating, (not recommended) zig-zag transformer grounded,  solidly grounded or impedance grounded.

Seems your CAP LOCK key is busted, probably ought to get another keyboard.
