Calculating amperes per phase in three phase circuit
Calculating amperes per phase in three phase circuit
(OP)
How can i calculate ampere per phase for AC alternator of 15KW and i need 220 volts from neutral to each phase. Can you help me out.
Thanx.

RE: Calculating amperes per phase in three phase circuit
I=kW/(sqrt3 x (sqrt3 x kV))
I=15kW/(sqrt3 x (sqrt3 x 0.220kV))=22.7A
RE: Calculating amperes per phase in three phase circuit
P=VI Cos Fie (Cos fie beeing the power factor of the load).
on a resistive load PF =1 the max phase current would be 5000/220= 22.7 Amps (per phase)
phase current can be measured using a dmm (multi meter)and a clamp ct (current transformer).
as for the voltage.... unless the alternator has an AVR (voltage regulator)the voltage will vary somewhat in unisun with the speed of rotation of the alternator. if there is an avr there is usually a means of trimming a pot to give a desired voltage value. if there is no avr and it is critical that you have 220 v then you need to get one. hope this helps you out. good luck!
