Idle Validation

Idle Validation

Idle Validation

(OP)
Gentlemen:

I feel kind of embarrassed asking this question (I should know the answer)  but after about 10 years and have not received an answer that makes any sense I am going to try here...

On electronically controlled diesel engines, such as in a line haul truck, what is the intended purpose of idle validation (IVS),  what is it used to control, and why do you need this feature ?

RE: Idle Validation

A wild guess on my part, so don't quote me, but maybe it's a fuel economy device whereby all fuel is cut off on overrun down to a predetermined rpm which then triggers enough fuel supply to maintain a stable idle.

Pat
