Minimum Information for National Board?
Minimum Information for National Board?
(OP)
Hello,
About two years ago, I noticed that one of the National Board numbers on a new ASME Section 8 pressure vessel had a very low number, something like the number 17. Later I found new vessels with even lower numbers. I wonder if numbers 1-xx are assigned to each manufacturer for each new year?
My question is what is the minimum information required to submit to the National Board, in which they would be able to pull up information on a vessel (assuming it was registered)? Or perhaps would it be a jurisdictional body, like a state in the case of a vessel being in the U.S.? I wonder what minimum information would be required in Canada as well? In my search I did find a National Board document, which is a nice compilation of laws/rules/regulations for different states and provinces at: htt p://www.na tionalboar d.org/Site Documents/ NB-370.pdf
I would guess that they would need, as a minimum, the National Board number, the manufacturer, and the manufacturer's serial number. But is anything else required (as a minimum)?
I've searched for awhile but to my surprise have had little success. I can't even find a website/procedure to request a manufacturer's data report. I've found procedures for lost nameplates, and registering new vessels but nothing which states what minimum information is required to obtain documentation (like a MDR) for a vessel.
This is really a hypothetical question. Obviously, the U-1 form (or similar) and the nameplate are good things to have.
Thank you all for your responses.

RE: Minimum Information for National Board?
All you need is the NB# stamped on the vessel or nameplate, and call the National Board. I have performed this exercise before with the National Board staff. By the way, you can call them anytime for information, they have an excellent staff.
RE: Minimum Information for National Board?
It does not start over or repeat itself at any time.
a number 17 says that this is the 17th vessel that this particular manufacturer has registered with national board.
when you call the national board, you will need the name of the manufacturer on the name plate and the national board number.
if i wanted a duplicate U-1 or U-1a I would call the manufacturer on the plate before the national board, just quicker
