unbalanced forces and couples for pump

unbalanced forces and couples for pump

(OP)
I am working on the foundation design for Flowserve DMX centrifugal pumps. I wonder if anyone knows how to calculate the unbalanced forces and couples for these pumps. I have been waiting for the vendor to answer my question but so far I haven't heard back from them. But I would like to have some preliminary design. Also does anyone know if they specify the foundation load at the bolt down locations or the actual length of the bolt if using concrete foundation. They do specify the size of bolt.

RE: unbalanced forces and couples for pump

Right hand rule.  Short circuit torque, applied at the machine centerline, transferred to the plane of the foundation.

They should give you the CG of each major component, the pump, the gearbox/coupling and motor/engine.

They may give you a foundation detail, which you should promptly throw away and make your own design USING THE CORRECT FORM TO FIT IN THE FOUNDATION AND THE CORRECT REBAR DIAMETERS AND DEVELOPMENT LENGTHS for your AB stress,  diameter and YOUR concrete F'c.  Mfgr virtually never get those right.  Pay close attention to the bolt hole diameters, chair height and OF COURSE the locations.  BE SURE YOU GET THOSE RIGHT.  Tripple check and check once more.

RE: unbalanced forces and couples for pump

BigInch,

That would be the transient reaction torque that occurs during across the line start up, correct?

After so many months, I found out that they have torque values when the machine shut down. But I believe it is not the torsional study for the shaft.

RE: unbalanced forces and couples for pump

Let Flowserve worry about shaft torque, I think that's not what you need.  You mentioned bolt loads and lengths, so isn't it that you need the short circuit torque loads for foundation overturning stability and load check and bolt design.
