Merry xmas! NX Machinery Library is now available to all customers

Merry xmas! NX Machinery Library is now available to all customers

Merry xmas! NX Machinery Library is now available to all customers

(OP)
I just saw this clip on sfbmail... John Baker did you have anything to do with this? : )
This is great.

  PRODUCT: NX
SUBJECT:  NX Machinery Library is now available to all customers
  ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
  Affected Software: NX Machinery Library
  Associated PR Number(s): N/A
  Scope: NX 5.0 or higher
  Revision: N/A
  ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

  PROBLEM:
All NX Mach license restrictions on the NX Machinery Library have been removed.  As of now, all NX customers may download the available NX Machinery Libraries, the NX Machinery Library installation tool, and the associated documentation from the GTAC downlad section under the 'NX/Unigraphics NX' button (previously the files were found under the 'NX Machinery Library' button).

  REMEDY:
All NX customers may download the available NX Machinery Libraries, the NX Machinery Library installation tool, and the associated documentation from the GTAC downlad section under the 'NX/Unigraphics NX' button (previously the files were found under the 'NX Machinery Library' button).

I was but one of many voices crying in the wilderness, asking that the policy be changed and am glad that it seems that we were heard.

RE: Merry xmas! NX Machinery Library is now available to all customers

What does this library have in it? Is it the library that comes in the installation package?

RE: Merry xmas! NX Machinery Library is now available to all customers

No, this is a library of engineered components, such fasteners, bearings, pins, clips, etc. based on several standards including the most common mil-specs.  However, before downloading anything, we recommend that you first download the Excel file 'Machiner-library-catalogue-for-NX502.xls' (the 'NX502' simply indicates that the files are compatible with NX 5.0 and newer versions of NX) and review the content of the various libraries to decide which ones you would like access to.  Then download and use the free installation utility to complete the installation of the libraries that you've selected.

The reason that we do not include these on our regular distribution media is due to both the number and size of the files, as well as the fact that they are technically not release specific (if you're running at least NX 5.0 or newer that is) and besides, we may choose to add additional content from time to time and it will not be linked to any specific release.

RE: Merry xmas! NX Machinery Library is now available to all customers

Hola!

I just DL'd Free_NX_Machinery_Library_Installation.doc from the GTAC server.
According the to the Prerequisites:

The machine to run this install must have the following software:
1. TeamCenter 2005SR1 Portal or Teamcenter 2007 Portal.
2. NX5.0 or above.

I was under the impression that the library was now available to "All NX customers" (see OP), not just those with TeamCenter.
Is this correct?
We have floating liscences for NX7, but we haven't invested in TeamCenter yet.

RE: Merry xmas! NX Machinery Library is now available to all customers

You can install and use it in native mode.  It is accessable through the Reuse Library.  There are two sets of instructions (Word docs) in one of the zip files, TC install and Native install.

RE: Merry xmas! NX Machinery Library is now available to all customers

Hi,
Sorry I could not find the file, I searched in the GTAC download site "Siemens PLM FTP Server : unigraphics / ". please guide me where exactly the location of the file.

Thanks in adv

Hi John,
I want to download this 'NX Machinery Library' install files.
Thanks

RE: Merry xmas! NX Machinery Library is now available to all customers

You have to login to the GTAC download site using your webkey ID and Password and once there you select the 'NX/Unigraphics NX' item and even if you're running on Windows(64-bit), you still select the Windows(32-bit) item as that's where the files can be found.  There you will find the various library files (based on different international standards) as well as a few other documents including installation manuals and a catalog which we highly recommend that you review since you will probably NOT want to download all of the libraries and so the catalog will help you determine which ones would be the most useful for your situation.  In addition to a couple installation documents, there is also the install tool and a 'readme' document.

John,

I too wouldn't mind a copy! Is it stuck in the section that requires a fixed IP address because that frustrates me every time!

RE: Merry xmas! NX Machinery Library is now available to all customers

Please contact GTAC and they should be able to help you with this.  It may require that your records be updated so that your webkey links to the proper software configuration for your site.

RE: Merry xmas! NX Machinery Library is now available to all customers

Sorry I didn't get back right away. For some reason I'm not receiving my email notification when someone responds to my comments.

For those still looking; I access the GTAC server through the Help menu in NX.
Select "Online Technical Support" then "GTAC File Server".
After you log into the GTAC server with your webkey select the blue button "Product Download".
Next (if it's available) select the tab "NX/Unigraphics NX".
Expand "Windows (32-bit Intel)", or (I guess) whatever OS you're using NX on. I only had the one option for Win 32-bit.
Finally (I hope this is the right file) look for and download the file "Machinery-library-install-tool-2009-11-09.zip".

I haven't installed it yet, but I'll let everyone know if I was successful.

@ Hudson, I was also having trouble with the IP address. We installed a new server a little while back, and (I think) we also changed our ISP. After contacting our local UG sales rep with the correct IP addy, everything was fixed good as new.

RE: Merry xmas! NX Machinery Library is now available to all customers

Well, I've hit a snag.

According to the installation documentation ("user guide on installing reuse library for native mode.doc") I should be able to select which libraries to install (see page 4). The problem is only a single eyebolt is pre-selected for me, I cannot select anything else, and as a result that's the only thing that will install.  >.<

RE: Merry xmas! NX Machinery Library is now available to all customers

i managed to find a .doc but not the files to download?
That was in the NX/documents section, in the NX/unigraphics section i can only see 64bit downloads

RE: Merry xmas! NX Machinery Library is now available to all customers

That's why you need to contact GTAC so that you can get access to the files.

RE: Merry xmas! NX Machinery Library is now available to all customers

OK, i'll try that tomorrow, but that doesn't really make them 'accessable to everyone' !

RE: Merry xmas! NX Machinery Library is now available to all customers

I'm also working on that on the side, but for now...

RE: Merry xmas! NX Machinery Library is now available to all customers

Success!

I started with the word document "Free_NX_Machinery_Library_Installation.doc" from the GTAC server. What follows are the additional steps I took. They worked for me, but I assume no responsibility if things go awry. I'll try not to leave anything out, but please USE WITH CAUTION.

1) From the GTAC server DL and unzip "Machinery-library-install-tool-2009-11-09.zip". I unzipped it to my desktop. The file created is called "NX_Machinery Library Install - kits".

2) Go to the folder called libs:
\NX_Machinery Library Install - kits\tool\libs

3) From the GTAC server DL the zip files of the components you want available; for example "ISO-2009-10-09.zip"

4) Place each DL'd zip file within the lib folder mentioned in Step 2.

5) Look for and read within notepad the file "libraries.properties":
\NX_Machinery Library Install - kits\tool\configuration\libraries.properties

6) Rename the unzipped folders in the libs folder to correspond with the names written in the file libraries.properties. For example, according to libraries.properties you will see the following:
#iso
ISO_NAME=ISO
Therefore "ISO-2009-10-09.zip" you DL'd earlier becomes simply "ISO.zip".

7) Before running the install tool, I placed my existing folders in the NX "Standard Parts" folder (C:\Program Files\UGS\NX 7.0\UGII\Reuse Library\Standard Parts\) in to a temporary file called "originals" just to be safe. If I find anything missing, I know where to look.

8) Run the insall tool "MachineryLibrary-Installation.bat" within "\NX_Machinery Library Install - kits\tool\"

9) Select Native if you don't have Teamcenter.

10) The Library Configuration will run for a while depending on how many zip files you placed in the libs folder.

11) Select the appropriate path for your reuse library. For me it was "C:\Program Files\UGS\NX 7.0\UGII\Reuse Library\Standard Parts\".

12) Continue the install and that's it!

13) To check if all went well, open a new assembly part in NX.

14) Select the Reuse Library tab.

15) Make sure the "Member Select" window is open ^.

16) Open various folders you installed until some parts appear in the Member Select window.

17) Drag them from the select window onto your work area to use them in your assembly.

18) Opps! One last thing... I took the folders that I had moved during Step 7 back into the folder "Standard Parts" being sure to select SKIP for to avoid overwriting any of the new folders I DL'd.

Cheers!

RE: Merry xmas! NX Machinery Library is now available to all customers

i put my files on the server for access to all users, which meant changing it's location from within the custommer defaults...

RE: Merry xmas! NX Machinery Library is now available to all customers

John,
I noticed, in the re-use library files, you can't just turn on the threads, in the old part families which i used to use, which i think you created, you simply changed an expression "threads" from 0 to 1 to get fully detailed threads, but these one's don't seem to have that ??

RE: Merry xmas! NX Machinery Library is now available to all customers

I donated my original fastener library files to the group responsible for these new libraries along with my recommendations, but they were free to do their own thing, so it is what it is.  Sorry sad
