NX6 weight management

NX6 weight management

Will I need to get an advanced assemblies license if I want to save the weight of a part? It appears that way.

In the bill of materials on the assembly, that the component is used in, we need to list the weight of each component.

RE: NX6 weight management

no, you don't.
just keep measurments of body mass/weight and then add this value as expression of the certain part (Expression -> Link to Part).

RE: NX6 weight management

In each of the component parts, use analysis > mass properties and then save the results. Look in the part nav tool for the measurement that you just saved, there will be a new p value for the mass, you might even consider renaming it to something meaningful from within the expressions editor.

From in the assembly drawing, in the annotation editor, click on the tab called relationships, then click the expressions button, then the link to part button which will allow you to select a specific expression from within that part and will enter it as the mass in your text window.

Well that is for NX 4 anyway.

Thank you for the good replies.

Will advanced assemblies make the weight linking between components and assemblies, and models and drawings (using master model), a more automatic process?

RE: NX6 weight management

Also make sure that under...

File -> Options -> Save Options...

...that you've toggled ON the 'Generate Weight Data' option.

As for Weight Management, among the unique features there is the ability to 'Assert' a value for the weight of a component, such as a purchased part where that information was taken from a catalog or from a product specification.  Also you can assign weight limits which will warn you if certain maximum or minimum limits have been exceeded (however, something like that can now be done using 'Requirements', which does NOT require any special licenses).
