PMI & exploded view

PMI & exploded view

PMI & exploded view

(OP)
How I can or can I show in draft PMI dimensions when in properties -> "configuration or PMI view" is selected exploded configuration?

RE: PMI & exploded view

When placing the view using the view wizard there is a checkbox to include the PMI dimensions from the model view.
For an existing view RMB on the view then Properties.
On the General tab there is a checkbox 'Include PMI dimensions from Model Views'. This should be checked.
Then on the Display tab make sure the 'Configuration or PMI Model View' box shows the name of your view.
Dimensions should show when the view is updated.

Thanks beachcomber

My "include the PMI dimensions from the model view" is greyed and checked all the time. I check "Include PMI dimensions from Model Views", select my exploded wiev configuration and update the model but nothing happened. If I select the PMI configuration - all is fine and dimensions appear.

I think its not possible to show PMI dimensions in draft when exploded display configuration is selected. What do you think?

RE: PMI & exploded view

When you create an exploded view can you then add PMI to it.
Having done that can you save the view as a model view?

No. Therefore I think its not possible. Right now I solve this with alternate assembly and PMI views.

Thanks enyway.

RE: PMI & exploded view

Just had a look and it seems an exploded view is not a model view and there are no commands to define it as one.
There are also no PMI commands within the ERA environment.

RE: PMI & exploded view

Hello

Dont know if this thread is still alive but ill give it a try.

I am trying to get at part/assem from Solid Edge to show dimensions in the SE viewer but i cant se any option avaible for choosing to show pmi, i´ve tried over and over again with no success.

How can it be? could anyone tell me what im doing wrong of if im doing it right?

/Gary

RE: PMI & exploded view

Hi yes this can be done

1, You need to create at least one model view that has any relevant PMI dimensions visible. This is done directly in Solid Edge.
2, Exapnd the PMI brach in Pathfinder followed by the Model views branch
3, Right click on any model view and choose - 'Send PMI to View & Markup'

This will create the light weight .PCF file which can be viewed in the Solid Edge viewer or XpresReview. Within the file you will find you can activate the model views that you had created within the original file. These will have any PMI dimensions visible at the time the views were saved.

Hope that helps.

RE: PMI & exploded view

Thank you SolidMastermind for the help, it worked like a charm.

Now theres a few more problems i hope can be solved. If i have a part that is flattened (sheetmetal) i cant place any dimensions at all because the options is greyed out.

Is there anyway to place dimensions on a flattened part and then save it to a view?

Some other thoughts..

I am also trying to put angle messurements on a bend in design model stage but im only able to do it on one side and not the bend beside it.

And last but not least i want to put a dimension from the edge to the center of the bend (in flattened stage) for the operator to see where to bend the material. In drawings you can put this in manually but i was hoping its possible to do this in modelview in an easy way?

RE: PMI & exploded view

Hi Gary, no problem.

For your other questions. It depends on what version of Solid Edge you are using as well as the modelling method.

If you are on ST2, then the Synchronous Sheet Metal environment does allow you to place PMI dimensions on the flattened part.
The traditional sheet metal environment however is the same as previous versions and does not allow PMI in the flat pattern.

With your angle dimension, this is difficult to advise on without seeing the part or the area you are tying to apply the dimenjsion to.

Hope that helps
Jon
