Tolerance Question

Tolerance Question

Tolerance Question

(OP)
I want to know how to tolerance the straightness of a bore in a shaft properly.

I thought it was cylindricity at first, but now thinking its concentricity to the outer diameter.

Any help, would be much appreciated.
Thanks

RE: Tolerance Question

You need to give a bunch of information on function/application etc. for anyone to be able to help you, and frankly forum1103: Drafting Standards, GD&T & Tolerance Analysis may be a better place to ask.

Concentricity actually has fairly limited application, one of the runouts is often a better choice or in many cases position is quite adequate.

What is Engineering anyway: FAQ1088-1484: In layman terms, what is "engineering"?

RE: Tolerance Question

Yeah, concentricity means cylindrical bore OD to ID have identical centre lines to within tolerance.

Do you mean "TIR" or the included taper run out along the radius?
