Configurations
Configurations
(OP)
We have created a sub-assembly showing the internals of a valve. What we would like to see is the open and closed positon of the "plug".
At the moment the method used is supressing/unsupressing the relationships. Using configurations is an alternative option which can be shown in the draft format.
The problem is when we move the plug to the position required and save the configuration under a new name it will not return to the default configuration when we apply the default name i.e from open to close.
Your input will be gratefuly appreciated.

RE: Configurations
However you can partially and selectively explode items and create a configuration of that.
Then in the drawing you can show both configurations.
What is Engineering anyway: FAQ1088-1484: In layman terms, what is "engineering"?
RE: Configurations
1. View configurations that define what parts are shown when the config is applied. These have nothing to do with different positions or components.
2. Assembly configurations to define varying positions or different components within the same assembly file. These are created using Alternate Assemblies.
You would be best to look this up in help, as to fully explain it here would be a pretty big task.
However, in simple terms you need to create an Alternate Position assembly and then you can change the appropriate constraint to move the valve to the closed position.

RE: Configurations
Thank you for your reply, much appreciated.
I have looked into this and it does seem that way.
As mentioned by beachcomer, the view configurations are to show/hide parts. This is found under the home tab when creating the assembly.
Secondly, to create configurations with different positions of the components then this is done using the "ERA" (Explode, Render & Animate) where there is another configuration menu.
All clear and understood, now off to create some configurations!
Thanks again....BW

RE: Configurations
to have 1 additional configuration in addition to the default
one you need 2 configurations:
- 1 with your default setting
- 1 with the alternate setting
the last one use will be stored upon save into default,<userid>. This
is done to preserve the user's last seen state across sessions
What you would like to have can best be done by using the Alternate
Position assembly as suggested by BC a configuration will not do that

RE: Configurations
It is merely to show how parts go together for illustration purposes.
However it sounds like this is what you really want to show in your drawings.
