NX6 ASSEMBLY COMPONENTS COMBINE INTO ONE SOLID PART

(OP)
Hi NX6 Users,

How can you combine multiple components in assembly work part into one solid part in NX6?  I'm currently used IDEAS and we use a command called "construct" and add to entire assembly with or w/o history and we're done.  I couldn't figure out in NX6.  Please help...Thanks!

maybe wave linker and boolean operator "unite"?
create new part inside the assembly, copy solid bodies using wave links, and the unite copied bodies.

Or you could export a parasolid of the assembly and then import it into a new part. This would give you multiple bodies but all as part of a single part number. File > Export > Parasolid......File > Import > Parasolid. it depends if you want it to be associative or not. The other option is to create a linked exterior Assemblies > Advanced > Linked Exterior. This will allow you to create a shell of all the components which is really light weight and can also be associative. Exellent for things complex bought in parts like engines where you aren't really interested about what's inside, but you need the overall envelope for your model.

RE: NX6 ASSEMBLY COMPONENTS COMBINE INTO ONE SOLID PART

If you are looking just to 'condense' an assembly down to 1 file (unparameterized bodies), export to a new part (choose the option to remove internal parameters). Open your assembly, load all components of interest, export to a new part (remove internal parameters) select all components, hit OK. The result will be the same as JCBCad's export parasolid/import parasolid but with less steps. From there you can unite the bodies together if you wish (those that touch or interfere, anyway).

I'd do what cowski suggests as often as not. A handy hint for doing that is to set your selection criteria to all objects in order to select for exports all the solid bodies from within the components of your assembly.

If you have an advanced assemblies license you can use Simplify assembly under Assemblies-advanced.

I use NX6.
