Abaqus BC just in one direction

Abaqus BC just in one direction

Abaqus BC just in one direction

(OP)
Hi all,

I would like to apply a special boundary condition to a surface in Abaqus:

In the positive U1-direction displacement should be possible. In the negative U1-direction displacement should not be possible.

This behavior is similar to an interaction between two instances but in my model there is just one instance.

Do you know if this is possible in Abaqus (it is possible e.g. in ANSYS)?

Please tell me, if you do not know what I mean.

Thanks a lot!
Johannes

RE: Abaqus BC just in one direction

It sounds like imposing constraints.

A possible approach is to define contact between the surface and a fixed rigid analytical surface.

Hi Xerf,

tanks a lot, this is exactly what I mean. This is the way I've already solved my problem but I wondered if there is a possibility doing it 'easier' with constraints e.g.?

RE: Abaqus BC just in one direction

I'm wondering if you can create a plane with a no translation BC on it to synthesis the other surface. This would allow your part to approach and touch it, but not pass through, and depart again, at least in my head. I see the Abaqus example problems do it all the time to contain CEL and Lagrangian instances as well. This would take the interaction difficulty from the problem indeed.
