Foundation Inspections - Checklist Sheet

Foundation Inspections - Checklist Sheet

Foundation Inspections - Checklist Sheet

(OP)
Hi all,

I've been tasked with coming up with a company-wide standard checklist sheet for foundation inspections prior to pouring the concrete and was hoping to tap into the vast pool on knowledge available on this site. I have noted down an approximate outline of what I intend to cover.

Any further suggestions/examples would be greatly appreciated...

Inspection Specifics
-Site
-Date/Time
-Weather
-Inspector
-Contact on-site
-Site Risks

Source Information
-Drawings
-Specification

Inspected Elements
-Blinding layer
-Reinforcement spacing/diameter/cover/support chairs/splices/laps/....
-Shoring
-Waterproofing
-Holding Down Bolts

Observations

Verbal Instruction issued on site

RE: Foundation Inspections - Checklist Sheet

What about the soil bearing condition?  Any soft spots?  Hard spots?  Unexpected conditions?  Conformance with design assumptions?

RE: Foundation Inspections - Checklist Sheet

A couple of thoughts...

For "Holding Down Bolts", I would use "Anchor Bolt Placement" and seperate that to at shear walls and non shear walls (wood walls above}, and "Shear Wall Holddowns", type and placement.

Are you intending to verify the bearing capacity of the foundation soil too during the inspection, or is that by others?

What about Augercast Piles - rebar, size of pile, depth, pile layout.

Mike,
The terminology "holding down bolts" probably indicates nineninenine is not in the US, maybe in Oz.

Thanks Guys, some good suggestions here.

Bearing capacity would be verified by the geotechnical engineer.

If you're not careful the form could get very complicated. I would split the inspection into stages.

1. a General Inspection Form which would be signed off after the blinding has been placed. This could include notes on the prior works such as piles, compaction etc and finally the blinding level and condition.

2. A pre-concrete inspection form that includes formwork, rebar, cast-in items etc.

3. A post-concrete inspection which verifies the foundation has been cast correctly.

I like starter bars to be separate from footing reo

CASE as part of their Risk Management Program publishes a set of Site Visit Cards, which includes a section on Concrete Spread and Wall footings.  If your firm is a member of ACEC the price is very low, and may offer a good starting point for your project.

dewatering, seepage
treatment of rock such as cleaning, leveling, crack filling, dental concrete, slush grouting, pressure grouting
removal of loose material
removal of soft material
