NX Cavity/Core Creation w/out Mold Wizard

NX Cavity/Core Creation w/out Mold Wizard

NX Cavity/Core Creation w/out Mold Wizard

(OP)
Hi all,

I'm looking for advice on how to create a cavity and core without using mold wizard. I'm initially thinking starting with a blank assembly, then inserting the part to be molded, one blank template for the cavity, and one blank template for the core. I'd then create a block based on stock sizes for the cavity and core. After the parting is determined how would you create the cavity/core surfaces?

I unfortunately will not have access to NX until I start my new job after the holidays; I'm trying to be prepared beforehand.

Thanks!

RE: NX Cavity/Core Creation w/out Mold Wizard

WaveLink your part and parting surfaces into the Cavity file. Trim the block with the parting surface and then Subtract the part from the block. Thats it.

And if you need to account for the material's shrinkage properties you may want to scale the part appropriately before you subtract it.

How do you create parting surfaces? Is it as easy as copying the surfaces (offset surface, value 0)off the part to be molded?

Start with the mold as 2 halves (already parted). Then subtract the same solid from each one.

RE: NX Cavity/Core Creation w/out Mold Wizard

I'm doing one now. I link the bodies first, add shrinkage, and then sketch off the linked solid to create elements of my parting line so that I can subtract the body from the solid of the tool.

Sometimes the core passes the parting line a good opportunity to try out extrude until selected. Yet another way might be to extract a region from your linked body and patch that back onto the tool after the subtraction.

Best Regards
