Sewing surfaces to create a solid

Sewing surfaces to create a solid

Sewing surfaces to create a solid

(OP)
Hello - can comeone please refresh my memory...

If I have a closed volume formed by various surfaces that I have trimmed, sewing the surfaces together should create a solid, correct?  There should be no further operations necessary, right?

I don't currently have access to a seat of NX to test this, but I'm trying to mentally bone up for a potential job interview.

Thanks in advance,

Ed

RE: Sewing surfaces to create a solid

That is correct, if the sheet bodies (surfaces) enclose a watertight volume of space, sewing them together will result in a Solid body being created.

RE: Sewing surfaces to create a solid

Sewing closed surfaces results in a Solid, Provided your surfaces are withing the sewing tolerance and the Preferences>Modelling>Body Type is set to Solid.

RE: Sewing surfaces to create a solid

Actually, if the surfaces encloses a volume, the result will be a Solid irrespective of the Solid/Sheet Modeling preference setting.

And if most of the sheets sew together and you don't end up with a solid, you can look for sheet boundaries with the 'examine geometry' tool (in the Analysis menu) to see where the problems are.
