Quick Response Sprinkler requirement

Quick Response Sprinkler requirement

Can someone PLEASE help me out here. I know in the past I've seen a clear ruling in NFPA 13 showing that quick response sprinklers are required for new construction but I can't seem to find it. The only thing I can find is under thermal sensitivity but that states for light hazard. My application is Ordinary Hazard.

Anyone know what I'm referring to? I knew I should have tagged it when I found it the first time! DOH

RE: Quick Response Sprinkler requirement

cannot find it

RE: Quick Response Sprinkler requirement

All I can find is the light hazard requirements for quick response.

Isn't it strange that they only have a requirement for light hazard? I must be thinking of something else but I thought there was something stating it other than 8.3.3.1.

This is for a preaction system if that helps any?

RE: Quick Response Sprinkler requirement

QR Sprinklers are only required for light hazard occupancy.  The big advantage to using QR sprinklers in an ordinary hazard occupancy is that you can reduce your remote area size, however you have a pre-action (dry) system so you are going to be calculating 1950 square feet no matter what.

At this point it's a matter of economics and since hydraulically their is no advantage to using the QR sprinklers (can't reduce the remote area) you can save a few bucks a head and using standard response.

I could have sworn I've seen something in a code that says light and ordinary but it must have been one of those many nights I'm having nightmares about work! Don't lie, it's happened to you too ;)

Thanks for all the input!
