Trouble with File > Open > References ?
(OP)
If you've been having trouble getting the File > Open > References to work properly, it's not a bug. SW in there infinite wisdom have changed the method of invocation to using the Ctrl button when double-clicking the document to be replaced.

Quote (Jim Wilikinson):
This behavior was changed to try to re-instate the ability to manually type a filename (which was present in an earlier version). However, in doing so, the ability to browse for a file was made more difficult. That behavior is still there if you hold the ctrl key and double click in the filename field (so, same behavior as before, but just hold the ctrl key when you double click).
Under SPR 528194 we are investigating making this easier for both browsing and manually typing the name.

A hotfix (offered under S-045011) has been issued which messes with the function even more. Now we have to double-double-click the text field, or just double-click the icon ...which is a much smaller target.
Oh, and if you apply the hotfix, it has to be uninstalled before updating to the next SP.
