Nut slots machining Specification

Is there any specification or standard like B16.34 that mentions the need to machine(to make cast surface flat) the areas where the nuts rest on after they are tightened to the bolts.

Please see attached.

Thanks in Advance

The word you seek is 'spotface'.

You can search your answer on one of the manual of ASME B18.xx. They explain all you need to know about the dimension of the nuts and bolts (any kind of material).

In my opinion, you can take a look on the B18.2.3M to find out your answer.

Most valve standards refer to ASME B16.5 for end flange dimensions.  B16.5 requires the nut face to be perpendicular to within +/- 1 degree of the bolt hole axis.  For body joints, the API standards also use the same value.  For example, API-608 requires +/- 1 degree for the nut bearing surfaces on body joints.
