STRESS ANALYSIS ON RACING CAR SEAT !!!

STRESS ANALYSIS ON RACING CAR SEAT !!!

STRESS ANALYSIS ON RACING CAR SEAT !!!

(OP)
Hello All,

I am new to this site i was looking for help in solidworks 2008 cosmosexpress. I drew a racing car seat in solidworks 2008 and put four bolts on the bottom and 2 on the top (back support). I need to analyse the stresses on the seat but everytime i click on cosmosexpress i get an error message saying that i need to define a motion analysis first. This is my first time using this software and if any of you knows a way i could do this stress analysis, i would much appreciate it.

Thanks

RE: STRESS ANALYSIS ON RACING CAR SEAT !!!

Try to remove your bolts, as simulation express (2009) or previous cosmos express only analyse parts and not asseblies. I would asume that at hand calc on the forces acting on the passenger in the seat will give you the required input for side forces in corners and the much more severe forces in a collision. You will then apply these forces (maybe in two separate studies) and fix the seat properly with fixtures. (Use the splitline function to make a separate face under the boltheads, and add restraints accordingly).

However, you will only get an idea of something quite far from the real situation with cosmos express for this and for most other analysis. Consider closly to upgrade to the cosmos / simulation package. This allows you to perform more realistic analysis and get more accurate results, if your input is correct.

Will you not need to include the supporting structure behind the seat to get a valid result here? (Unless it is very stiff and much stiffer than the seat?)

Last and as above - simplify the structure and use a FBD to get out a result on your paper. Then analyse and compare if you analysis make sense.
Best of luck.

MAYBE IT'S BECAUSE THE CAPS LOCK IS ON!!!

Thanks for replying..I got the forces acting on the seat but the analysis fails each time. Makes me wonder if i put the restraints correctly. The seat we are using is the Kirkey racing seat TIG welded .080" & .100" 5052 grade aluminum. layed back 10degrees from vertical. The company says the seat doesn't use mounting brackets. It mounts directly to the frame and they suggested we use 3/8 or 1/2 grade 8 bolts. 6 of them. 4 on the bottom and 2 on the back (rear roll hoop). For the analysis i put restraints only on the holes i created for the bolts.  Should i put more restraints. and for the load, i assumed 25% of the drivers weight is acting on the bottom of the seat and the other 75% on the back. I think my restraints are wrong.
I any of you have any suggestions, they are more than welcome.

Thanks
