Can someone tell me why ASTM A 576 does not have the mechanical requirements in the spec.

Many Thanks

The simple answer is that the mechanical properties of the bars covered by this standard are not covered by the scope of the document.

This usually means that the ASTM body belived that mechanical properties that were important would be covered by other standards or specifications.  The Scope states that the bars are intended for further processing (forging, heat treating, etc..) that would change the mechanical properties, so they really aren't important to the standard.

Thanks redpicker,

The MTR also shows it as being  1018 HR Bar and ASTM A29. Is this the specification for the further processing you mention.

Many Thanks
