if no changes are made there is no reason to check back in after the pack and go.

I'm used to check in. I check them back as same rev with the 'delete local files' checked. Saves me time looking for the files in explorer.

RE: Pack & Go from PDM Works
The reason is that you cannot copy the files & change the links at same time in PDM whereas you can chage the links between existing files by renaming them.
I would do the following if you case
Check out the files without opening them in a different location to your normal working folder. Then if you do not want any interference between existing files, open another SolidWorks window & do Pack & Go.
Hope this helps
Cheers

RE: Pack & Go from PDM Works
The encryption method in Workgroup is a joke. If you can understand the file structure so you know where exactly you are in the tree and know exactly what the file name is supposed to be you can defeat it simple by renaming hte file and correcting the extension. Not actively worth the effort, but possible. And accessing the files from Explorer requires access to the install directory of the vault on it's server. If you're set up half way intelligently the standard user won't have access to those directories through Windows Explorer.
As for checking in at the same revision, I wouldn't recommend that either. It's possible that you could change something in the model without realizing it and would then check in that change. While this would probably fall into the "yeah it changed but it didn't affect anything" category 9 times out of 10, you can bet that 10th time it'll cost you a decent chunk of change in messed up production.

that way we can think out of the Box & suggest something..........if the Box is not too big:)
RE: Pack & Go from PDM Works
We maintain the files on the PDMWorks uptodate every end of the day. I would like to give my manager a chance to send files to vendors for quotes. He neither use SW. I would like to show him a way to open up PDMworks, select the required sub assly and pack & go from there. I don't want him to unknowingly checkout files or take ownership.
Hoped there was a way.
RE: Pack & Go from PDM Works
I believe you could prevent your manager from checking out files / taking ownership with proper project permissions. I don't see any way that he will be able to do the pack and go operation without getting the files out of the vault.

It sounds like they are sending 3-D data to their vendors for quote, or 2-D's with the associated 3-D part. At this point the web client isn't very helpful because he'll still need to open the part to PnG it, but he'll just be using a clunkier interface to do it. No better way to turn your boss off to an idea than making it difficult to use.
