How to enter equations in dimensions in SW2010?

How to enter equations in dimensions in SW2010?

(OP)
Hi all,
I'm new to SW, but used Inventor for 5 yrs.
Is there any way you can enter equations in dimensions similar to Inventor (type in i.e. d0+10 or 5+2+3*2). Is there any functions table, where you can see all parameters assigned? In inventor all dimensions are added to this table as you add them.

Cheers,
Marius

SW dimensions do not accept global variables (per the first example), but simple operators (per the second example) can be used.

Thanks, i'll look into these tips.
I see it isn't as simple as inventor though, where you can just click another dim and it will link. (and use in further equations if required). Maybe something for the wishlist?

You can link equations to dims it just takes a couple more clicks, see the tutorial "building models--advanced design". The "equations" tool is on the "tools" toolbar or menu.

there's also tables but I'm not sure where they are

yeah, it's not as quick as Inventor on equation dims or linking 2 dims

RE: How to enter equations in dimensions in SW2010?

Equations have had Global Variables for a couple of versions. To my knowledge, a GV still cannot be used in a dimensions value field.

I am not sure about the 2010 as I am still on 2008 but you can try this.

Do the dimension like a normal dimension

then double click & it will bring a small dialog box called "Modify" where you can change the value of dimension,

here click on the down arrow on the right hand side of text. It will give you 2 options 1. add equation 2. Link Value

Now click on the Add equation & it will bring another dialouge box where the dimension you are editting is already in left side of "=" sign so add whatever you want on the right hand side. you can add another dimension by clicking on it. Makr sure you have made the sketch visible if you wanna dd from other sketck or feature.

hope this helps.

Cheers

Gurjeet
