Can we increase the Thickness of Transportation Cylinder Shell?

Can we increase the Thickness of Transportation Cylinder Shell?

Can we increase the Thickness of Transportation Cylinder Shell?

(OP)
We have some cylinders to transport inflammamble chemicals with a shell thickness of 5 mm & 8 mm.

Due to change in transport regulations, we need to use the cylinder with higher shell thickness of 10 mm.

Can we, by some process, increase the thickness of these cylinders shell to make it to 10 mm to meet the regulations?? because procuring new cylinders shall cost us huge amount.

None that I can think of that could be done uniformly and cost effectively and provide similar safety.

What are you thinking - overlay?  What is the internal pressure and vessel material?
I'll tell you what you cannot do - you can't put a 2mm sleeve over it and say you have 10mm....

material is carbon Steel and the pressuere is little positive above the atmosphere.

I must be missing something here but I find it hard to believe that attempting to increase shell thickness with welding (as one option) is going to be more cost effective versus replacement.

Have you actually measured (by UT) the wall thickness of the existing transport cylinders? If you are below 10mm as required by regs, purchase new ones.

we have actualy measured the thickness and found it 8 mm. we have some cyliders of 10 mm thk as well.

Any ways....thanks for the comments, we may plan to procure new cylinders looking to the all inputs recived so far.
