Hello Friends
I want to learn if there is a API standard that gives information about the minimum distance between suction pipe intake and the reservoir bottom.

thanks for the reply
but I am actually looking for a value that can be used  in storage tank design.
I mean API 650 gives a value such as the minimum distance between the suction intake and botoom of the tank should be 1 times the diameter of the intake nozzle for sump draw-off.
But nothing is given in API 650 for oil suction.

That often depends on sediment accumulation levels you expect to have in the tank, but lacking other concerns, while keeping the characteristics of the specific fluid in mind, there is no reason I see for not following similar dimensional recommendations, no matter if its a tank or a sump. Provided that the tank isn't on a truck, ship, airplane, rocket...

You can go pretty low.  Things to consider: 1) adequate area for the liquid to flow through.  2) provision to prevent the nozzle from sucking up the bottom plate.  3) provision for excluding bottom sediment from getting in.  You can also go to under bottom suction lines.
