About API 614

About API 614

About API 614

(OP)
COuld anyone please make me understand the gist of API614.

1. What is the purpose of seal oil pressure with different pressure levels? what is this - and where this different pressure application is there?

2. what is "film type seals"?

3. What is the meaning of "gas reference"

All above questions could be basic and could be too "unprofessional" to ask in the professional website, however excuse me and explain.

RE: About API 614

1.inboard seal:product side,outboard seal:atmosphere
application where leakage to atmosphere is not wanted,
seal oil leakage (inboard) preferred to product>seal oil has higher pressure
seal oil leakage preferred to atmosphere (outboard)>seal oil has lower pressure than product side

2.mechanical seal (film) as opposed to packing seal

3.=pressure buffergas (on top of seal oil reservoir )
purpose is explained above
