Where is aluminum pipe popular?
What alloys?

RE: Aluminum Pipe

I'd say 1972.  A lot of folks thought it was the coming thing for Oil & Gas in the early '70s, then there were some material reactions that significantly affected the pipe performance and the last peice that I'm aware of was removed from this field in 1989.

There has to be some current uses...I see it for sale on websites....

RE: Aluminum Pipe

The only case where I've seen it as a recommended material is for concentrated solutions of hydrogen peroxide.  In that case it was primarily for storage tanks rather than piping.  Properly passivated stainless steels also work fine for that serivce.

The only other place I've ever seen aluminum pipe is as electrical conduit.

RE: Aluminum Pipe

Irrigation pipe?  Especially the stuff used on travelling sprinklers looks like aluminum.

RE: Aluminum Pipe

aluminized pipe is used for gravity storm drain culverts. I'm not sure it is pure aluminum. Otherwise I have never used it.

RE: Aluminum Pipe

The main use for aluminum pipe is where the weight is important and the environmental corrosion resistance (i.e, it doesn't rust).

RE: Aluminum Pipe

Carports and other light structural framing applications.

RE: Aluminum Pipe

We installed some vessel drains in our cryogenic plants made of aluminum.

RE: Aluminum Pipe

1. Overflow lines from top of tank to grade

2. Safety Valves exit pipe to atmosphere

RE: Aluminum Pipe

Deionized and Demineralized water. I believe the pipe is 3003

Conveyor lines for dry organic acids.

RE: Aluminum Pipe

It's used for compressed air applications, especially those types with push-fit unions and fittings. We still use the traditional threaded steel type, but the push-fit stuff must offer some big time savings for installers. I have no idea on the long-term suitability for this application, but presumably it has been tested and certified.

Here's an example: http://www.transairaluminumpipe.com/
