3D Text Tool and NX6 - where is it buried?

3D Text Tool and NX6 - where is it buried?

(OP)
Feeling like a total newb today - but I have to ask:

Where did the 3D Text Tool get buried in NX6?  I looked in the usual spots, but could not find the tool.  HELP!

RE: 3D Text Tool and NX6 - where is it buried?

It's still located on the Curve toolbar and can also be found at...

Insert -> Curve -> Text...

You could also use the Command Finder and just enter 'text' and if it turns out to be hidden (due to the Role which you're using) you can force it to be visible by selecting the 'down arrow' to the Right of the Command Finder result and selecting the 'Show' option which will un-hide the icon.

To an Engineer, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

RE: 3D Text Tool and NX6 - where is it buried?

Brings up a question: In years past, I'd copy and paste the .mtx file from the previous version to the new one to keep those types of settings. I didn't do that this time (different physical location) but could that have been done going from 5 to 6?

RE: 3D Text Tool and NX6 - where is it buried?

There should be no serious problems with recycling your .mtx files (or if you've created an actual Role, there's no reason that you can't reuse it as well).  Occasionally there could some surprises if you've done some significant customization, such as moving icon/menu items from where they would normally be found to different toolbars and menu pull-downs.  In the case where we might have moved these items or replaced them with new functions, there could some items that might get missed or become inoperative, but they could be fixed quite easily with a couple of customization actions.

Thanks John, both for the location and for the MTX Easter Egg.
