Use of PVC Conduit in Trench

Use of PVC Conduit in Trench

Use of PVC Conduit in Trench

(OP)
I have a trench at an industrial site that runs between 2 buildings.  The only protection is Metal covers the length of the trench.  Can I use PVC conduit for up to 480 volt power?  I think I can per Article 352 of NEC, but I'm not sure if that section requires Schedule 80 PVC for this application.

RE: Use of PVC Conduit in Trench

You can use PVC conduit if there is a ground wire inside it as well as your 3 phase 480.  If there is significant risk of physical damage however, you should run metal conduit.  If not, PVC should be fine.  Use schedule 80 if you need added stiffness, support or durability.  Also, since this will be in a trench, be sure you have a way to keep water from building up inside the conduit.

If it is broken, fix it.  If it isn't broken, I'll soon fix that.
