cable glands

cable glands

(OP)
I am working in afghanistan and the conditions are very dusty and as you can imagine procurement is a huge issue. I have installed MDPS with cables attached however i do not have the cable glands to insert into the bottom of the box. According to code, MUST these be used or is there another alternative.

RE: cable glands

What's an MDPS? What size and configuration cables?

RE: cable glands

Code or not, cable glands are required for a proper installation. They serve a few important purposes:

1. Transfers the weight of the cables to the enclosure so that the cable terminals are NOT supporting the weight of the cables.

2. Grounds (earths) the steel armor by bonding it to the enclosure (assuming the enclosure is metal and is grounded).

3. It also seals the installation from dust and insects, which becomes more important in your situation.

You decide if it is necessary or if you have alternative means to meet the same objectives.
