Live tooled lathe vs. Mill
Live tooled lathe vs. Mill
(OP)
We make disk shaped parts with both face holes and side holes. I am trying to decide when it is better to use a live tooled lathe, or a mill/drill center. Can some one share some of the factors they considered in making the same decision? Is there any "rule of thumb" from experience in regards to # of live tools required, # of turn vs. drill features, etc.

A sub spindle in lieu of a tailstock is a must. Don't make the mistake of overlooking this. The payback begins the moment you start using it. Just my 2cents.
