Topping slab for ADA Ramp

Topping slab for ADA Ramp

Topping slab for ADA Ramp

(OP)
I am using a topping slab to remedy an access ramp that was improperly designed to ADAAG Standards. It is an exterior location on southern Oregon coast. We might have a freeze once a year but no frost to depth - lots of winter rain. Do I bond the new 3" (to a max of 6")topping slab to the old ramp? Do I need to use WWF or would fiber be okay. I am matching all control joints in old slab.

RE: Topping slab for ADA Ramp

I would bond the new topping and would use WWF...unless you want to use steel fiber...I would not use polypropylene fiber for this application.

Clean and roughen the existing surface, use a bonding agent, then place the concrete.

RE: Topping slab for ADA Ramp

Are you using detectable warning surface on the ramp?  ADA standards in effect say the entire ramp requires it; current ADAAG (not "code") says the bottom 2' or so require the warning surface.

RE: Topping slab for ADA Ramp

Can you hydro clean the surface and use one of the Sika bonded toppings? Do you have a requirement for 3" minimum? I'm not familiar with ADA or ADAAG standards.
