Steam leak calculation

Steam leak calculation

Steam leak calculation

(OP)
Hi,

I'm fighting here with steam leak calculations.
I found 3 or 4 different methods and the results are far from consistent.
Is there any standard that guides to the correct formula, or does anyone know the correct formula to calculate it?

Thanks!

RE: Steam leak calculation

I do not have any official calculation procedure, but from past review of choked flow calculations thru condenser sparger pipes, one can say:

The steam leakage would be acoustically choked flow, the discharge coeficient is about 0.82 for cracks whose diameter is laarger than  the pipe thickness. But realistically, a crack usually has a clearance or effective diameter much smaller than the pipe thickness, so one should review teh literature  on this subject; as I recall, the discharge coeficient for choked flow is strongly related to the ratio of the crack diameter to the wall thickness.

Dear metengr,

Thank you very much for your tip!!
Perfect. I will compara it with the methods that i have here, but i think that this one is very straight and very well explained.

Thanks once more!!
