thread560-200193: Functional Tolerancing & Annotations

I rec'd catproduct and catpart files from my customer. The catproduct files are toleranced using FT&A .

How can I create 2d drawings for the shopfloor with these files?

Do I need a FT&A module?

Thanks in advance,
Ken

RE: Create 2d drawings from catprodcut files using FT&A

Not sure if you need FT&A module but the way to get them on drawing is to use projection method "View from 3d" from the drawing module and pick the views from the tree in the FT&A file. See if it's possible with your configuration

RE: Create 2d drawings from catprodcut files using FT&A

Ken,
The FTA data exists, no FTA license needed.  Follow Azrael's direction, you may get a warning message about incorrect standard.  You may need to toggle the drawing standard from Ansi to ASME to ISO.....

Derek

I have my assy/catproduct file open as well as my new drawing sheet. (the catproduct files contains the ft&a)

When I try to copy  from...Annotation Set..Views.."FrontView1". I get an error...The 3d view cannot be copied.

In Catia Help, it tells me to..............

1)Click View From 3D  in the Views toolbar (Projections sub-toolbar).

2)Select a view from the 3D, either in the specification tree or on the part. In this case, select Front View.1 in the specification tree.

I have no (or can't see) "view from 3d".

In thread 560-200193 FT&A...see reference in 1st post above.

"purchase the FT&A license".....Is a ft&a license req'd?

I've stumbled thru and created a documemt that looks like a print....I'm not quite there yet. I certainly wouldn't feel comfortable releasing what I created to the shop floor.

I can create a mutli-view print and manually enter/create dimensions. Or I can pull in dimensions using "view from 3d" but there is GD&T info missing.

I'm just not getting what I need from FT&A. I can see the info, I just can't get it to create a 2d print for the shop floor.

RE: Create 2d drawings from catprodcut files using FT&A

3D FTA information is not usually put on to the model for the purposes of creating a drawing (the way you tolerance a 3D model is different to the way you tolerance a 2D drawing, even if the meaning is the same). You will need to perform one of the following (using an FT1/FTA licence) move the annotations around and on to different views so that you get something that looks reasnoble as a 2D drawing. Or us a combination of view from 3D, manually adding and removing annotations / tolerances / dimensions to get something you are happy with as a drawing.

Where can I verify if I have or don't have a FT1/FTA License?

RE: Create 2d drawings from catprodcut files using FT&A

Tools-->Options-->General-->licencing look down the list for FT1 and or FTA (if the code for these is not installed they will not be displayed), will say granted if you have one. I would be quicker to look and see if you have the following CATIA-->Start-->Mechanical Design-->Functional tolerancing and annotation.

Peter, in both instances I do not have.

tools-options-general-license list.....No FT1 or FTA

catia-start-mechanical design.....NO FT&A

Does this mean I cannot do what I have been trying to do, create 2d prints from a Catia file containing 3d FT&A?

RE: Create 2d drawings from catprodcut files using FT&A

You can and have been creating 2D drawing from 3D FTA data. You do need to create a view from 3d for each of the FTA views that have FTA entities on them in order to get all the FTA objects into the drawing. However it sounds like the FTA data is in a form that makes scense if you read the data directly from the 3D, but if you use it to make a 2D drawing it does not have a layout that meets the requirements of 2d drawings, you therefore have some manual work to do in order to get 2d drawings of the required standard.

This is purely a function of the FTA creating user, if they create 3d FTA with drawing creation in mind then 2d drawings will be a single click away. If they (and they usually do as it is less work for them (the whole reason for using FTA in the first place)) create the FTA with just the information required to capture the tolerance information on a 3d model then it is unlikey to create a good 2d drawing.

RE: Create 2d drawings from catprodcut files using FT&A

The absence of FT1 or FTA means you cannot change the FTA entities to produce a better 2d result. A typical change would be to switch an annotation to a different view as in 2d it makes no scense to have tolerance information for features that are not visible from direction of normal the view.

Cutting to the chase you are going to have to do some drawing work to get drawings of the standard you want.
