Identification of Steel "K" Joist

Identification of Steel "K" Joist

(OP)
We have a client who has a supply of several K joist in his fabrication shop and he  would like to use them on a new project.  Our client does not know what the designation of the joist are.  We have been throught the 60 year manual published by SJI without any success as to what size they are.  The SJI manual gives chord size for all joist types except K series.  Does anybody know how to identify K joist by chord size.

RE: Identification of Steel "K" Joist

About the only uniqueness of the K-series joist is its "weight per foot" as many sizes may share the same chord size.  Weigh the joist and measure its span.  Determine the weight per foot and compare to the SJI tables for the K-series.  This should get you very close.

Thanks Ron,  I'll weigh it.
