SW BOM or Excel Based BOM

SW BOM or Excel Based BOM

SW BOM or Excel Based BOM

(OP)
Hello all,
Does anyone know what the differences are between using these two options?  The "Excel based BOM" only activates if you select a drawing view 1st.  I have always used the standard SW BOM for drawings until this most recent employment where they only use the "Excel Based BOM" option.

Thanks
BB

RE: SW BOM or Excel Based BOM

In my opinion- continue to go with the SW based BOM for new drawings.  Legacy drawings work with Excel-based, but the less applications (i.e. Excel) you use, the less buggy SW will be.

RE: SW BOM or Excel Based BOM

You can't sort Excel based BOM's by part number...etc.  That's one of my biggest headaches with them.  Vista has a big issue with Excel based BOM's if you have certain HP or Xerox printer as your default, it causes Excel to crash then SW to crash and occasionally PDMW Enterprise will crash as well from it.  I talked my current employer into switching by showing the benefits of the SW BOM.  The only downside of the SW BOM is linking every drawing view to a certain BOM.
