Rookie question about finding discontinuity in a sketch

Rookie question about finding discontinuity in a sketch

Rookie question about finding discontinuity in a sketch

(OP)
Ok so I just started working with Unigraphics NX5 about a month ago, and coming from a background of Solidworks and CATIA, its been a pretty painless transition for the most part.

My question is this:

I have a sketch I'm trying to extrude, and its pretty complex but should form a complete loop (like a trace of the part) that will extrude into a solid body without holes.  Anyways, somewhere in the houndreds of radii, splines, and small lines there seems to be a discontinuity.  That is the only logical reason I can come up with as to why when I extrude the drawing it forms a shell of what I'm expecting.  I have looked for the discontinuity for like 2 hours now but I can't seem to find it by panning and zooming.  Is there an easy way to find out where it is? Or maybe something else is going on?  Like I said, I'm still learning.

Thanks for your help

RE: Rookie question about finding discontinuity in a sketch

This is not a best practice response but it's how I've dealt with it. Select edit attributes, then select an entity in the direction you wish to chain, then toggle chain on under "class selection" menu, then select another entity about half way through contour (in other words a partial chain), if there's a discontinuity the chaining will stop short. If not try on remainder of contour.

First, make sure the 'body type' option in the extrude dialog is set to 'solid' rather than 'sheet'.

I figured it out.  Thanks for the support.

RE: Rookie question about finding discontinuity in a sketch

Check to make sure all the entities in your sketch are in the same plane. If explicit geometry was added to the sketch it's possible that every element does not lie in the same plane which will cause your extrusion to produce a sheet.
