Cable-extension transducer (string pot) need to cut profile in half

Cable-extension transducer (string pot) need to cut profile in half

Cable-extension transducer (string pot) need to cut profile in half

(OP)
I have an approximate profile of 6", which I need to reduce to 3"

The design is very similar to this model:
http://www.celesco.com/_datasheets/sr1a.pdf

Possible ideas:

-Smaller gearing for potentiometer/transducer shaft
-Re-design rear cover.
-Smaller potentiometer
-Insert spring under spool

Life requirement - 1 million cycles, so this limts the potentiometer (hence the gear ratio)

Curious to see if any expert design engineers have experience with these parts.

I would love any input.

Thank you!

Frank

RE: Cable-extension transducer (string pot) need to cut profile in half

Clarification wanted.

Is the question that -  you want to build a 3 inch diameter case version of the catalogue unit that has ~6 inch diameter case.

RE: Cable-extension transducer (string pot) need to cut profile in half

(OP)
The focus is the 4" width dimension shown on page 1, not the diameter

Sorry about that.

You might ask the supplier because the cover is probably large enough to house any sensor a customer might need. They may be able to offer something thinner on a semi-custom nature.
